Who Runs This Site

Artemisia Unfiltered is run by Artemisia, a photographer with five years of experience across a range of subjects and shooting conditions. This site exists because of a simple frustration: when she was starting out, practical and straightforward photography information was hard to find. Most resources were either too vague, buried in unnecessary filler, or written to sell something. Artemisia Unfiltered is her attempt to build the resource she wished had existed — honest, useful, and free of fluff.

What This Site Is

Artemisia Unfiltered is a photography utility and guide site focused on the questions photographers actually search for: camera settings for specific situations, focal length comparisons, how calculators work in practice, and why certain technical choices matter.

The name comes from Artemisia — a painter associated with unflinching directness. The "unfiltered" refers to the editorial approach: practical information without the padding, vague recommendations, or sponsored product placement that has become common across photography content.

What You'll Find Here

  • Photography Calculators — Depth of field, crop factor, print size, memory card capacity, shutter speed minimums, file size estimates, and more. All calculators run client-side in your browser.
  • Camera Settings Guides — Practical guides for specific shooting situations: outdoor portraits, indoor photography, low light, manual mode basics, and the exposure triangle explained clearly.
  • Lens Guides — Focal length comparisons (35mm vs. 50mm, 50mm vs. 85mm), prime vs. zoom trade-offs, and guidance on choosing a first lens by shooting style.
  • Beginner Photography Fundamentals — Aperture, ISO, shutter speed, and composition explained in plain language. Not dumbed down, but not unnecessarily technical either.
  • Editing Workflow — Lightroom basics, file organization, and export settings for web and social media.

Editorial Standards

These standards guide what gets published here and how it gets maintained:

Practical value over length

Guides are as long as they need to be. If a question has a two-sentence answer, that's the guide. Content is not padded to hit a word count target or to keep readers on the page longer.

No paid placements without disclosure

If affiliate links are present, they are disclosed on every page that contains them and in the Affiliate Disclosure. Affiliate relationships do not affect editorial content. Lens or camera types are recommended based on their properties, not on commission availability.

No unsupported product claims

Guides that discuss gear focus on objective properties: focal length, aperture range, format compatibility. Comparative claims are based on specifications, not paid reviews or marketing materials.

Calculator accuracy

Photography calculators on this site use standard optical formulas. Results are estimates — real-world results vary by lens design, focus accuracy, and shooting conditions. Calculators include plain-language disclaimers to that effect.

Content maintenance

Guides are updated when information becomes outdated, when common questions suggest a section is unclear, or when new camera technology changes practical recommendations. Update dates are shown on guide pages.

What This Site Is Not

  • Not a review site — individual products are not reviewed or scored
  • Not a personal blog — guides do not include personal anecdotes, trip logs, or opinion pieces
  • Not a paid platform — no subscriptions, no paywalled guides
  • Not a beginner trap — resources are useful at beginner level but not condescending to anyone with experience

Contact and Corrections
